STILL HERE

Adam Eckburg Dec 2009

It's been awhile since I've posted. What with the holidays, being down with serious sinus problems (salt dust from the roads just kills me), and getting ready for the new semester just sapped all my time. BUT I did give myself a new Canon G11 for Christmas, and the above image was made with it. Thankfully it is usable up through ISO 400. I have been so spoiled by the Canon 5D2's quality at really high ISO's it's easy to be overly critical by this small camera's abilities. My 5D2 with the 24-105 f4 IS is a big, BIG handful. And I love the fact that the big camera's mass helps hold it still at really slow shutter speeds. Yes, the IS of that lens helps, too. But the G11's IS is really good, so good in fact, that I have to worry more about subject movement more than my hands holding the camera. I just wish it was good at ISO 800. Yeah, I know I'll never be satisfied, but I can wish. Considering the state of digital at the beginning of the last decade, cameras have come a long way. And thankfully printer technology has kept pace.

Nice image, glad to see you back. I can say ditto on the sinus, it put me down for a good week or more.

Beautiful picture - there is a clarity and quality to the light and surfaces that is almost 3D like. Wonderful.

Thanks, Patrick. I'm not primarily known as a people photographer, but every so often, I'm in the right place at the right time with a camera in my hands.
