TRAVELING AGAIN 35

Vaughn, New Mexico 7 March 2011

Many of you may not know this, but the "Smiley Face" was the product of an illustrator who worked for an insurance company in Worcester, MA. I don't remember the year, but one day trying to raise the moral of the office, he drew a circle with three dots and a curved line on an office memo. Story here. The rest is history. His name was Harvey Ball, and he never received a single cent of compensation for his "happy face."

TRAVELING AGAIN 17

Megargel, Texas 5 March 2011

I turned a corner and my breath was taken away, I thought at first I was seeing a Chagall stained glass window. Had I been a painter, instead of a photographer, I always thought I'd paint like Chagall. Yeah, but that didn't happen, did it? Hahahaha.....

TRAVELING AGAIN 16

Megargel, Texas 5 March 2011

Some may think the coloration of this image a bit strange, but folks who know the flat plains of west Texas are no stranger to this color. It is the color of the land, and on some days the ceaseless winds blow so hard they whip-up clouds of red that lays a coating of rusty dust on everything. I have thought at times even the people take on this color.

TRAVELING AGAIN 10

The Leslie Gin, Lesley, Texas 12 March 2011

This is "the gin" across the road that I spoke of in my last post. I never know sometimes until after I see the images the exact reasons I photograph a particular scene or thing. At times, it's not a single thing, but rather a combination of objects and how they associate, or disassociate across the frame. I think the deciding factor in the above image of the gin was the old tractor tire. For me, without that one single object, this would not have been an image.
