URBAN -- Not really...

Adamsville, Rhode Island 24 June 2009

Another day out in the misting rain. I had tried to make it all the way down to New Bedford once before, and that was my goal this day. However, I decided to take-up where I left-off the last time which was in Taunton which is just northwest of NB. Never made it to NB, because I got side-tracked into other images and since I wanted to get home before dark, I ran out of time. I was down in southeastern Rhode Island and had just turned towards home when I drove past the above. Of course, I did a "uuey" to go back to find a wide spot on the side of the road to park. There was a stone wall about a block long, and all along behind it, there were "day-glo" symbols painted on the trees, and little blow-up Tony Tigers hanging from branches. I had made the above image and was walking about looking for another possible viewpoint -- to photograph the entire block would have made the details too small to be readable here -- the owner of the property drives up, gets out, and walks over. With a big smile on his face, he says: "I bet you're wondering what this is all about." Agreeing with him, he gave me the short answer. Seems he's been having a small tiff with his across the street neighbor about proper land usage in their town. He then added that it had been his birthday this past weekend and he decided to have some fun and irrate his neighbor in the process. Why the tigers? He is proprietor of Tiger Tree & Landscaping.
